6 Simple Ways to Refresh Your Airbnb for Spring (That Guests Notice)
As the days grow longer and warmer, even hosts who kept their calendars closed over winter begin thinking about preparing their space for the new season.
But even if your Airbnb has been welcoming guests year-round, after the quieter winter months, every space can start to feel a little tired.
Not in a bad way — just in a way that asks for a reset.
Spring is the perfect moment to refresh your space. Not with big renovations or expensive upgrades, but with small, thoughtful changes that guests feel the moment they walk in.
Here are six simple ways to bring your Airbnb back to life for the new season.
1. Start With a Thorough Cleaning
Before thinking about upgrades, styling, or seasonal touches, start with a deep, thorough clean. Everything else builds on this foundation.
Go beyond your regular routine and focus on the details that are easy to overlook:
- Wash the windows to let in more natural light
- Steam-clean the sofa, armchairs, and other upholstered furniture
- Wash curtains, blankets, and all pillows (including decorative ones)
- Vacuum rugs and mattresses
- Clean all hard surfaces and kitchen cabinets
- Don’t forget the oven and microwave
Once this is done, the entire space feels lighter, fresher, and more cared for.
You’ve created the perfect base — now you can start adding those small touches that make your Airbnb feel aligned with the new season.

2. Refresh Textiles First
Start with textiles — it’s one of the easiest ways to give your Airbnb a fresh feel.
The idea is simple: keep the cozy atmosphere, but make it lighter.
Switch out thick winter duvets for lighter ones. Replace heavy blankets with cotton or linen in neutral tones. These small changes already make a big difference.
And one of my favorite things to change with every season: throw pillow covers. Just swapping heavier fabrics like faux fur or knits for lighter ones can completely change how the room feels.
It’s also a good moment to check all other textiles — bed linen, towels, kitchen towels — and see if anything needs replacing. Look out for stains, wear, or anything that no longer feels fresh.
I personally always go back to thick white towels. They are simple, clean, and instantly make the space feel more cared for.

3. Let in Light and Air
We’ve already cleaned the windows and frames, but that’s just the first step.
Now the goal is to let in as much natural light and fresh air as possible. It’s one of the easiest ways to make a space feel fresh again.
If you have heavy curtains, consider switching to lighter ones. They still give you privacy, but allow more light to come through. You can also use mirrors to reflect daylight and make the space feel brighter.
And don’t forget about fresh air. Open the windows regularly and let the space breathe.
In dry weather, you can even leave the windows slightly open for longer periods to keep the air circulating.
In our stone house in Croatia, we often left windows slightly open throughout the day during dry periods. It helped keep the space fresh and prevented moisture from building up.

4. Add Subtle Spring Details (Don’t Overdo It)
Now comes the fun part — spring decor.
But before adding anything, I always keep one principle in mind: Airbnb decor should stay cozy, minimal, and easy to maintain. You don’t want to create extra work for yourself. Dusting lots of small decor pieces is not fun at all.
Think simple and natural. A few olive branches or a bouquet of fresh flowers in a ceramic vase can be more than enough. You can also use greenery in terracotta pots or bowls. If you choose artificial plants, go for good quality so they look as natural as possible. Even budget-friendly options can look great if chosen carefully. I remember using two small IKEA rosemary plants in our Airbnb kitchen, and I was honestly surprised how much they changed the space. Such a small detail, but it made everything feel fresher and more alive.
Stick to neutral, subtle touches. For example, a simple spring wreath on the front door already creates a seasonal feeling.
Natural materials always work well. Woven or rattan baskets are one of my favorites — they look beautiful and are practical at the same time, either for storage or as plant holders. A small jute or natural fiber rug can also add warmth without making the space feel heavy.
When it comes to seasonal decor like Easter, I would keep it very minimal. A few fresh flowers or a simple arrangement is more than enough. Avoid too many themed decorations — they can quickly make the space feel cluttered.
Less is always more, especially in a short-term rental.

5. Reset the Scent of the Space
I’ll be honest — the scent of your space is very important. It’s often the first thing guests notice when they step inside, so it’s not something to ignore.
A space can look perfect, but if it doesn’t smell fresh, guests will notice it immediately. And it sets the tone for their entire stay.
Start with the basics. Fresh air always comes first. Open the windows regularly and let the space breathe. Especially in spring, this is often all you need.
Try to avoid heavy or overpowering scents. They can feel artificial and not everyone likes them.
That said, in some cases — especially in city apartments where you can’t always rely on fresh air — subtle scent solutions can work well. A light diffuser with a clean, natural fragrance can help create a welcoming feeling. Think soft scents like citrus, linen, or very gentle herbal notes.
I’m personally not a big fan of dried flowers, but I do have one exception: dried lavender. In our stone house, I had a large ceramic vase with lavender near the staircase, and the scent added beautifully to the whole Mediterranean atmosphere.
In spaces where air circulation is more difficult, an air purifier can also make a big difference. It helps keep the air fresh without adding any artificial scent.
In the end, the goal is simple — your space should smell clean, light, and natural.

6. Fix the Small Things Guests Always Notice
Spring is the perfect time to take a closer look at your space and fix the small things that can easily affect the guest experience.
Start with anything visible. Patch and repaint scuffed walls — we all know what suitcases can do, especially in smaller spaces. Fix loose handles, tighten anything that feels unstable, and check for worn details that no longer look fresh.
Move on to the functional side. Fix leaking taps, re-seal around basins if needed, and clean vents. Check that all appliances are working properly and that everything feels reliable.
It’s also a good moment to take care of maintenance tasks that are easy to forget during busy periods. Clean air-conditioning filters and, if needed, book a professional service. Check for drafts, leaks, or any signs of moisture.
Don’t forget safety. Test smoke detectors and make sure all safety equipment is in place and working.
And if you have any outdoor space, prepare it for the new season. Clean, refresh, and make it ready for guests to enjoy.
These are small things, but guests always notice them. And when everything works as it should, the whole stay feels smoother and more comfortable.

You see? A spring refresh doesn’t have to be complicated.
It’s simply about bringing your space back to a place that feels cared for and ready to welcome guests again.
Step by step.
Start with a deep clean and the necessary maintenance. Once you have that strong base, everything else becomes easier — adding simple decor and those small final touches.
And very often, it’s exactly these small changes that guests remember the most.
